BRAMPTON, ON, September 25, 2026: The Brampton Blitz have signed England batter Alex Hales as the franchise's marquee player for Canada Super 60 Season 2.
Blitz supporters will not need reminding who he is.
The 86 that started Season 1
On October 8 last year, the Blitz opened their inaugural campaign against the Toronto Sixers at BC Place. They posted 136 for 5. Toronto chased it with three balls to spare, and the innings that did the damage was 86 from 32 balls by Alex Hales.
The man who delivered that innings is now in the dressing room.
It was the Blitz's heaviest opening-night lesson and one of two defeats that eventually left them third in the league stage. They recovered to win the title anyway. Twelve months on, he plays for them.
What he brings
Hales is a T20 World Cup winner. In the 2022 semi-final at Adelaide Oval he made 86 not out from 47 balls with seven sixes as England beat India by ten wickets with four overs unused, before England took the final against Pakistan at the MCG.
He was also the first Englishman to score a T20I hundred, an unbeaten 116 against Sri Lanka at the 2014 World T20.
In a format of ten overs a side, where the powerplay is the first two and the match lasts about 90 minutes, that kind of top-order scoring rate is the whole game.
Into a squad that already knows how to win
Hales joins a group that includes Martin Guptill and James Vince, both back from the championship campaign, alongside Dillon Heyliger, the competition's reigning leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets in seven matches.
