BRAMPTON, ON, September 22, 2026: The Brampton Blitz begin their Canada Super 60 title defence next week as the league's only champions. They won the inaugural title at BC Place in October 2025 after finishing third in the league stage, then won their semi-final by nine wickets and the final by eight.
The Blitz won five of their seven matches. Both knockout wins came on the same day, October 13, and neither chase went beyond the eighth over.
A losing start
The campaign opened with a defeat. On October 8 the Blitz made 136 for 5 against the Toronto Sixers, and Toronto reached the target with three balls to spare, led by 86 from 32 balls by Alex Hales.
The Blitz then won three in a row. They chased down 152 against the Mississauga Masters to win by seven wickets. They beat the Whiterock Warriors by eight wickets with 11 balls remaining. Against the Vancouver Kings they won by six wickets with two balls left, after David Wiese made 62 from 27 balls to rescue the chase.
The last league match was their heaviest defeat. On October 12 the Montreal Royal Tigers made 130 for 7 and held the Blitz to 87 for 6, winning by 43 runs.
Four teams finished the league stage level on six points. The Blitz were placed third, which set up a semi-final against second-placed Mississauga.
Finals day
Mississauga batted first in the semi-final and made 148 for 6. The Blitz reached the target in eight overs for the loss of one wicket. Martin Guptill hit 79 from 25 balls, including 11 sixes, and Will Smeed added 63 from 21.
The final that evening was a rematch with Montreal, the team that had beaten the Blitz by 43 runs the previous day. This time Montreal were bowled out for 69. Dillon Heyliger took 4 for 9, David Wiese 3 for 6 and Chris Greaves 3 for 16.
The Blitz needed 5.5 overs to chase it down. James Vince top-scored with 34 from 16 balls, Guptill finished unbeaten on 23 from 13, and Alex Davies hit the winning runs with a six.

The awards
Wiese was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, with 149 runs at a strike rate above 213 and nine wickets. Heyliger was the leading wicket-taker, with 13 wickets in seven matches at an average of 11.76. Mississauga's Leus du Plooy was the top run-scorer, with 238 runs in six innings.
Who returns
Six members of the championship squad are in the Season 2 roster: Guptill, Vince, Greaves, Heyliger, Yuvraj Samra and Rishiv Joshi. Heyliger returns as the competition's reigning leading wicket-taker. Wiese, the MVP, will play for Mississauga this season.
